Updated 12th July 2005 Greetings and welcome to the new cricket season. After a long delay, the statistics have been updated to include last season. The Club has held its AGM and the following people have been elected to the committee: Executive Committee President- Neil Tatterson General Committee Publicity- Peter Thornhill, Results- Kelly Mitchell, Bar- George Collins, Andrew Tatterson, Simon Williams, Joe Kiss, Paul Masters, Val Mildenhall, Aaron Smith.
We have been working on a number of projects in the off-season that some may be aware of. These include three new batting nets on the south side of the oval, recruiting the services of off spinner Rob Travers from Glastonbury England and the possible return of some former players to the club. In May this year, Cricket Victoria agreed to fund $2800.00 towards the building of new batting nets that will be erected between the south end goals and the scoreboard. The facility will be similar to Bundalaguahs with three bays, soft netting and rubber landing zones for the bowlers. Part of the fence will be taken down in the cricket season to use the oval for the bowlers run ups. Thanks to everyone who helped out pulling down the old nets last Saturday. In February this year, Rob Travers contacted me through our web site in the hope of playing this season. After a few phone calls to some former Stratford players, we have decided to give him a go. Rob will be coaching the under 14s and will be available for private lessons. You can see how he is performing by going to www.glastonbury.play-cricket.com Below is some information he sent me about himself. Rob Travers -23 years old,
6'3", and 95kg. I live in Street, Somerset, a large village
of about 12,000 people. It is a mile away from Glastonbury, where
I play my club cricket. I am an off-spinning
all-rounder - I have played county age group cricket for Somerset from
u11s all the way through to u19s. I have also represented Somerset
Cricket Board, effectively the county's best amateur side. From
1998-2000 I attended the Somerset County Cricket Club Academy. I have been at Glastonbury CC
for five years, in which time we have won three promotions and we are
now in the West of England Premier Division, against players such as
Greg Brown and Tom Hankins (believe you know these guys). Also,
after 6 games this year we are in second place, trying to chase down
Bath CC!!! I am a qualified coach to
level one, but have a good amount of experience, having been employed as Youth
Coach for Bedminster CC while at university and as well as coaching for
local sports groups on a regular basis. I currently coach kids
part-time in two schools, ages ranging from 7 - 11. The club will also provide accommodation, part time work and help him in the purchase of a car. If anyone can assist us in these areas please contact the club. |
